Who would have listened to all of J.F. Rutherford's naughtiness? Oh, sheesh, that's right, his mistress probably did as he talked in his sleep.

If we had confession boxes instead of judicial committees...
by mtsgrad incontributions would surge sufficiently to allow elders to buy decent clothesthe wtbts would be listed on the nyse within about 10 minuteselders would give up their lucrative window cleaning rounds and get paid by the society to cope with the influx of sins/moneynobody would ever be diassociated (why lise the revenue?
)new qualifications for elders would be accountancy relatedcollections would be outsourced to secuirty guardsrbc = regional box countersmtsgrad.

RAY FRANZ ACCUSED OF LYING
by whereami inis there any way to get ray to explain this?.

Watchtower apologists will accuse anyone who makes unflatering observations about the organization as liers. No amount of rationality, explanations, or evidence will satisfy them.
The question is: should Franz be obligated to answer every accusation of lying from Watchtower apologists? If the Governing Body is not willing to subject themselves and the writing department to public scrutiny regarding their revisionist history and shoddy research; why should Ray Franz have to answer accusations about COC?
To this date, the Watchtower still has not released the names of the New World Translation Committee or the names of those who are writing their blood policies.
Franz has already received incredible public scrutiny in the subsequent years after the publishing of his two books. A far cry from the G.B. members who get the luxury of hiding in their ivory tower as they continue to lob stones at other religions and publish grandiose assertions without having to publicly explain themselves.
When Ted Jaracz is willing to sit down with Dateline NBC, then I would say Ray Franz can answer his accusations.

-30 Wind Chill and the meeting WAS NOT Cancelled...What Idiots
by bronzefist init's -5 with a minus 30-35 wind chill factor here so you would think the "loving elders" would cancel the sunday borefest.....nope.
just got a call...."well of course it was your choice, but there were 70 in attendance this morning!!!".
there have been meetings cancelled because of heavy snow, but give me a break going out could be dangerous.

I wonder if there is anything so important in any one particular meeting that is worth risking life and safety over. It is just a meeting, right?
Oh contraire. Timely and urgent reminders are being dispensed from the Faithful Slave's pie holes. Loving reminders are being given regarding the length of sister's dresses, demonstrations on how to place an Awake with a Buddhist, the hidden demonic origins of Yoga, and the local needs talks on keeping your children out of the restrooms during the meetings.
It is for these very life-saving waters of truth that one risks life and limb!

The future of the Watchtower
by Exterminator inwhat are your thoughts on the watchtower's future?.
here's my guess: they will move away from the increasingly embarrassing dates of 1914 and 1919, rather stressing the "success" of their organization as credentials.
there will be even more emphasis on the concept of god's organization.. the result will be total sclerosis, for god's organization cannot err nor be reformed by men.

To have an alternative you can listen to Open Forum on radio by Harold Camping.I am listening to him very often though he is my opponent. He is against Jehovah's Witnesses while I am standing for them .
LOL More Harold Camping sales pitches? Sorry OBVES. Thomas Poole has already inundated this forum with the pseudo-Adventist, "get your salvation while supplies last" sermons that are offered on Camping's radio station. The self-appointed Jeremiah got booted off the forum for excessive trolling. Ex-Jehovah's Witnesses have had their fill of delusional ramblings which make Fred Franz's writings look rational.
He is teaching the end of the world in 2011 AD . I am preaching the end in 2011 AD and my life for years has been turning around the predictions of the end of the world .
How profound. Is this a revision of his 1994 predictions, or is this new light? I wouldn't trust Camping to be able to locate the Pacific Ocean on a globe. He is another self-styled Herbert Armstrong who just doesn't learn his lesson. What kind of sorry ass excuse he will come up with on January 1, 2012 is anybody's guess. He would be better served predicting the end in 2012 per the Myan Calendar. At least there are a lot of pot smoking college students who would buy such a book.

Is it me or are alot of women starting to leave their husbands in the TWOOF
by IreallydidwalkoutofaKH ini live in so cal and got to tell you women are leaving in droves out here...is it a caly thing or are simply women bored out of their minds listening to their mate and his friends presentations week in and week out?
-
Jeremy C
Yes, I have observed this in So Cal also; although I don't believe that it is a regional phenomenon at all. One reason for this is that JWs typically get married much younger than non-Witnesses. They are not allowed to casually date and test the waters. All dating is for the purpose of marriage. I strongly believe that many JWs get married young because of sex-drive, not true love. As both partners mature, they change, and grow apart personality wise.
Another reason is that JW men are stretched thinner than many other men. They must devote so much of their time to organizational activity, that many wives do not get the amount of time that they need. This is especially the case with elders. Also, the organization does not build many people up, but merely adds to the pressure of life - particularly those who suffer from depression. The organization is a tiring treadmill in the lives of many; which detracts from a healthy intimate marriage.

JWs: 144,000 in Revelation is not ALWAYS a literal number
by Olin Moyles Ghost ini recently realized something interesting about jw theology and thought i'd share it with the rest of the class: as most of us know, a distictive facet of watchtower/jw theology is the concept that the 144,000 in revelation chapters 7 and 14 is a literal number.
thus, the witnesses believe that exactly 144,000 humans will be resurrected to heaven to rule with jesus christ, while the rest of the witnesses will populate a restored paradise earth.. they also teach that the 24 elders in revelation represent the 144,000 kings and priests in heaven.
so, when rev.
-
Jeremy C
Thank you ghost.
There are certainly many holes in the Watchtower's interpretation of the 144,000. It is quite arbitrary and capricious. The Watchtower plays fast and loose with the facts and trips over themselves in an attempt to maintain this traditional teaching.
But, what would we expect from a religion that will perform intellectual somersaults in trying to explain why the Garden of Eden account was a literal historical event? Or Jonah and the fish? Or the global flood? Their intellectual dishonesty permeates every aspect of their rationalizations as well as just about very page of the silly books they print.

Why The Hoopla Over Rick Warren's Selection
by snowbird in... to do the invocation at obama's swearing in on january 20, 2009?.
gregor asked this on bts's thread, but i am afraid it may get buried underneath all the other stuff.
what denomination is rick warren and why all the blather about him giving the inaugural invocation?
-
Jeremy C
I do not understand why an Inaugural Invocation is of any earth-shattering importance. People are responding as if Obama has appointed the man to a newly formed cabinet position. It's just a silly Invocation for Pete's sake. This would be similar to Billy Graham making an appearance at the Indy 500 and announcing "Gentleman, start your engines". What is the big deal?
People all too often confuse symbolism with substance. People get caught up in the trivialities like who wore a flag lapel and who didn't. What color of tie did the President wear during his State of the Union Address; and what does it mean. Is Hillary Clinton really a Yankee fan or not. Who cares?
All of this hand-wringing over ceremonial pomp and symbolism is quite trite, and boring. Maybe Obama just wanted to choose someone with a somewhat broad appeal. Why must a pastor have to jump through some rigid ideological litmus test just to give a damned Invocation? I voted for Obama, and I don't have any issue with this. I also disagree with most of Rick Warren's views, but that does not make him into some devilish character, in my book.
Before people get their panties in a wad over Rick Warren, let's not forget many of the views and statements made by Obama's own pastor Jeremiah Wright.

question on atheism vs. god
by bonnzo ini am, for now a witness on the outside, and still believe in god most of the time.
i have read dawkins "the god delusion", found it pretty interesting and helped me understand why athiests believe the way they do.
but i always have questions.....one that really bothers me about deism is the thought that god has always existed and always will, had no beginning and no end.
-
Jeremy C
my lil' ol' brain can't really figure out eith one. i guess is what you want to believe. we humans live a life filled with a lot of trouble, and i wonder if we believe in god, not because it makes sense, but that belief hold out a hope/promise of something better, while atheism means you better enjoy what you got....its the only one you'll get. what do you think? thnx for putting up with my rambling on
You are doing what a friend of mine refers to as mind f---ing yourself. Is there anything wrong with not knowing?
